Creating hyperlinks in the real world

“A few emerging technologies aim to make more objects — both in real life and in computers — behave like hyperlinks. An upcoming version of the program Hyperwords, now limited to web browsers, will work with any open window on your computer.”

The program is like hyperlinking on steroids — combined with right-clicking on steroids. For example, highlight "100" and — within the right-click menu — convert that figure from miles to…

First Ever Footage of the iPhone 3G App Store

Four never before seen screenshots of the iPhone’s upcoming App Store.

The price on Monkey Ball (an awesome looking game) is $9.99, so it's safe to say that all games will be around that price. Furthermore, the majority of applications will be free (such as eBay, TypePad).

First look: KDE 4.1 beta 2 shows solid improvements

KDE 4.1 beta 2 brings Plasma more polish and reliability. Ars tests the new KDE beta and looks at some of the usability improvements.

Although the panel configuration system is in very good shape, there are still some noticeable rendering issues that emerge in certain corner cases. For instance, when a panel is against the top edge of the screen but sized so that it…

The touch screen technology is widely used in PDA, smart phone, PMP, ATM, information kiosk and many other types of equipment in industrial, medical and commercial environment. Actually the technology enabling these devices is not new, since it was invented by Dr. Samuel C. Hurst in 1971. But it becomes hotter after the release of …

Voodoo floats 13.3-inch Envy 133 into the Air

Oh my. First your slicing cake with the MacBook Air, then you’re looking to steal its market share. Lenovo, you can’t afford to be smug either. Voodoo’s $2,099 Envy 133 isn’t a gaming rig. It is a 13.3-inch ultra-portable with LED-backlit display, 1,280 x 800 resolution, HDMI, hard disk or SSD option, instant-on Voodoo IOS mode that let’s you surf

the prices people are (apparently willing) to pay for these things make the mind boggle. To me it's a case of severely diminishing returns beyond $700 in the notebook market (for my needs).*eSATA powered by the USB……

Screen? A must for SSH

If youve ever used SSH to connect to a server, you ll know its limitations: if you want to open a new window, youll need to create a second SSH connection to the server. And if the connection breaks during the SSH tunnel, youve lost your progress. This is where Screen comes in.

Start a new window by typing “CTRL + A” + “c”. The C stands for Create - I know, too obvious. A new window will be created. In order to test this, type the command “top”. Then…

New iPhone Images Leaked

Crunchgear has released photos leaked from someone with obviously strong Apples connections of the new iPhone.

I would assume these might not be real, otherwise a quick takedown would be in order… Although, the Apple legal team might not be working full force at midnight on a Friday.

How to scare the crap out of people who visit your website

This would be the perfect prank if someone could hide the “esc to exit full screen” feature.

Loved it. I remembered when I was working at an Internet caffee and we had win ‘98, XP was just out on the market and I got tones of BOSD’s a day. Crappy times …that led to Linux fun times. Thanks again for the…

Microsoft Boss Bill Gates Signals End of The Computer Mouse

Microsoft is developing a new touch screen operating system that could mean the end of the computer mouse, Bill Gates has announced. Windows 7 aims to build on the success of the touch screen systems developed by Microsoft’s rival Apple’s iPhone.

“With a PC you'd have to lift your arm every time, and with a screen that's 17 inches wide that's going to become more difficult,” said Roberta Cozza, an analyst at Gartner, an IT research company.

Microsoft shows off Multitouch Windows 7

Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer got on stage at D6 with Walt and Kara to talk… Microsoft, of course. While the company is still being rather coy about Windows 7 — some have blamed loose lips early on in Vista development for saddling the OS with too high of expectations and making things difficult for developers

Apple already has a MultiTouch Computer out. What many people seem to forget, because you can make it phone calls with it. And it makes very much sense in it's form factor.Actually: MultiTouch barelly makes sense on normal computers. Especially…

Apple 2013: Report Predicts Move Toward Home Devices

Predicting the new gadgets that Apple might concoct next is a favorite parlor game of the technology industry, Wall Street and the blogosphere. The latest chatter is that company CEO Steve Jobs will reveal at a developer conference beginning June 9 a new version of the iPhone that can surf the Web over fast 3G wireless networks.

For the bedroom, Forrester envisions an Apple “clock radio” that pipes in music and other media across a home network. Possible, too, is an “AppleSound” universal remote control, also with a…

nihilogic: Javascript Super Mario Kart

This is a prototype of a Javascript Mario Kart-like racing game.
It uses the canvas element to do most of the rendering and should work in both FF2, FF3, Opera 9.27 and Safari 3.1.1.

@Christian Heilmann: It's pretty much the same principle as mode 7, I believe. The blurryness is because of the scaling done by the canvas and the low res map used.@makken skeyes: Sure. http://www.nihilogic.dk/labs/mariokart/mariokart.js

OLPC founder Nick Negroponte just unveiled the next-gen XO Laptop, and it totally blows the original away. Smaller and more like a foldable book, it does away with the keyboard and trackpad to go totally touchscreen?that’s right, dual touchscreens, straight out of the future, like a kid’s book in Minority Report.

Enhanced Book Experience - Dual-touch sensitive displays will be used to enhance the e-book experience, with a dual-mode display similar to the current XO laptop. The design provides a right and left page in vertical format, a…
