How to Make Facebook Useful Again - ReadWriteWeb

Facebook has been in the news a lot lately for what it won't let users do…maybe it's time they start building more and more things that it will let users do. Sarah Perez has taken the time to offer a few things that could help the company continue to innovate.

I've been on facebook for ~3 years now. I remember how people revolted with every new feature - newsfeeds, beacon, etc. But people are generally resistant to change so that's understandable. Regardless, I find since I left college, I…

Google Finally Launches Offline Access For Docs

Google announced today that they would be adding the ability for users to work offline in their popular web office suite Google Docs. Offline support will be powered by the Google Gears API, which is a browser extension that allows developers to store application data offline and sync it back up again later when users are reconnected.

So what has been taking Google so long? Why isn't it eating its own dogfood and releasing more of its web apps with Gears support? What about Gmail? These are some important questions. The longer Google waits, the more time its competitors…

Why Yahoo! Buzz is a Brilliant Idea

Yahoo! is moving in the right direction, and a very exciting one for all parties involved, and here’s why.

Too many people have unfairly characterized Yahoo! Buzz as not being social. A more fair characterization would be to argue that Yahoo! Buzz is not as democratic as some of its competitors, but it's still very social. First, the fact that user…

Top 10 Last.fm Mashups - ReadWriteWeb

Last.fm is generally acknowledged to be one of the best web apps of this era - its music recommendation system literally creates a personalized radio station for you. Well, Last.fm also has an API that is used by many external services to add value and enjoyment for end users.

This service generates a tag cloud of artists similar to the one you’ve input, based on Audioscrobbler data. I generally don’t find such tag clouds to be overly useful, because music is very subjective - e.g. Bryan Adams isn’t very…
