Diggers do you want a girlfriend? Read this and learn how

Diggers have no fear The Internet is not a separate place a person can go to from the real world. The Internet is the real world as this geek learned how to master it, By the end of the year, he had six girlfriends simultaneously, all maintained through a complicated system of instant messenger, e-mail messages and heavily orchestrated dates.

It started in my sophomore year in high school. I went to one of those big Eastern public schools that pumps out students in a way that would make 19th-century industrialists throw their top hats into the air and shout…

Google and Creator of Family Guy Strike a Deal

The innovative part involves the distribution plan. Google will syndicate the program using its AdSense advertising system to thousands of Web sites that are predetermined to be gathering spots for the Family Guy target audience, typically young men. Instead of placing a static ad on a Web page, Google will place a Cavalcade? video clip.

But Media Rights Capital, a boutique production company that has the ability to invest about $400 million a year in movies, television and Internet episodes, thinks it has figured out a sustainable business model with the Google Content Network….

TidBITS Safe Computing: How to Protect Yourself From The New Mac OS X Trojans

… good news is that based on the nature of the vulnerability the risk is low, but the bad news is that this kind of attack could become more serious. two ways to protect yourself until Apple releases an update. First, you can change the permissions of ARDAgent by opening Terminal and entering the following (all on one line) …

I almost avoided writing this story since I hate to add to the hype of low-risk threats like this. While I don't doubt for a second that we'll see serious Mac (and iPhone) security threats in the future, this one is pretty low…

Preview: CNET’s new, improved look

After more than a dozen years of bringing you our content surrounded by yellow and green, CNET is getting a new look. As you can see below, the carnival of colors is being replaced by a cleaner look that pivots off our updated, red CNET logo and our content.

We had two key goals with this CNET revamp–make the site easier to use and speed it up. Simplicity is the major theme of this design, and that includes the new “pipeless” CNET logo, a more consistent site structure and a…

And the fastest browser is…

Which is the world’s fastest browser? According to Zimbra, Safari runs fastest, though it didn’t beat out Firefox by much. Both Safari and Firefox were roughly twice as fast as Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 7. Of course, Zimbra was testing for how these browsers perform with the Zimbra Web application. Your mileage may vary with other applications.

Mundaneum Museum Honors the First World Wide Web Concept

On a fog-drizzled Monday afternoon, this fading medieval city feels like a forgotten place. Apart from the obligatory Gothic cathedral, there is not much to see here except for a tiny storefront museum called the Mundaneum, tucked down a narrow street in the northeast corner of town. It feels like a fittingly secluded home for the legacy of one of

The Internet in 1934

In 1934, Otlet sketched out plans for a global network of computers (or electric telescopes?) that would allow people to search and browse through millions of interlinked documents, images, audio and video files. He described how people would use the devices to send messages to one another, share files and even congregate in online social networks

IBM supercomputer is world’s fastest & most energy efficient

Good news for green tech: The fastest supercomputer in the world is also one of the most energy efficient. In the twice-yearly list of the fastest computers on the planet, IBM has 5 of the top 10 most powerful computers, including the No. 1 spot.

Supercomputing, which pits the highest-end machines against challenges such as forecasting the global climate in coming decades or finding oil reservoirs underground, is a fast-changing field. The Top500 list once again had the most…

No happy ending for founder of prostitute review website

TheEroticReview.com has come to dominate the countrys prostitution scene, which is increasingly migrating from the street corner to the Internet. The Web site, which is still in operation, allows visitors to rank their experiences with prostitutes on a scale of 1 to 10, as well as to leave comments.

But now the site’s founder, David Elms, is in jail awaiting trial in Los Angeles in a case unrelated to the site, leaving the fate of his influential underground world uncertain. In dozens of conversations and in postings on the Internet…
