iPhone:The New Personal Computer - ReadWriteWeb

When Apple first announced the launch of its iPhone platform, we wrote here that it is a game changer. Even the core of iPhone is a major advance in mobile computing, but with the platform iPhone becomes the new personal computer.

Alex, great article and I totally agree from my personal perspective. I spend more time out of my office than in my office (and like it that way) but I do NOT like lugging my laptop around. Now that laptops have become desktop replacements…

Exclusive: Sneak Peek of the 3G iPhone OS

First off, we noticed the camera gave us this message before we were ready to snap a picture. Obviously, the fact that the camera wants to know your position is tied into the addition on GPS on the handset.

For all you "always on" junkies, check out the icon to activate push email. Apparently you can have your corporate email refreshed every 15, 30, or 60 minutes. Or just customize the refresh rate by hand.

Could This Be a New MacBook Pro? [Rumor]

A blog entry (in Chinese) claims to have a photograph of prototype case housings of the upcoming redesigned MacBook Pro. The photo depicts what appear to be top and bottom housings of a Mac laptop sitting on a box.

I use the piss out of my macbook pro. There are times when I make it weep like a little child as I'm exporting aperture projects while simultaneously converting HD video, and it DOES NOT QUIT. It doesn't hurt that it's beautiful, but…

Apple and Segway Merge! Well Kinda…

The news that Doug Field, Segways chief technology officer, has left the company for Apple, is one of those high-level personnel changes one feels obliged to comment on.

But the most intriguing comment on Apple and Segway to date comes from Steve Jobs himself, as told in Code Name Ginger: The Story Behind Segway and Dean Kamen’s Quest to Invent a New World by Steve Kemper. In the book, Kemper describes a…

Apple on how to replace an original iPhone with a new 3G

Apple has posted a Support Document that explains exactly how to replace your original iPhone with a new 3G iPhone. Basically there are two tracks: 1) In the US you don’t need your original SIM as your original “account information will be transferred to iPhone 3G’s included SIM when you purchase iPhone 3G.”

What I find amusing is that somehow what works (and is sensible) for non-US iPhone owners somehow just doesn't apply to us. Why should anyone have to be worried about a freakin' contract renewal when, in the GSM world, it…

Counterpoint: Hello

While the Macbook / Pro line as well as the MacPros are essentially indistinguishable from their predecessors, thats not necessarily a bad thing. Its a design philosophy that has powered BMW and Mercedes for a good long while.

I think the article makes a good point about so-called design classics and the ability of these classics to ingrain themselves into people’s consciousness. However, products don’t have to remain the same aesthetically to…

Power your MacBook Air with the solar energy

A new solar panel kit for the MacBook Air will both charge and power the laptop at the same time. The smallest 19-watt, which takes 14 hours to recharge the laptop, will sell for $500; the 8-hour, 29-watt model is $600 and the 5-hour, 58-watt model is $1,000.

That doesn’t sound like a big deal when you picture your green, conscientious self sitting outside this summer on a patch of grass, or at a picnic table, with your solar panel spread out beside you and passersby inquiring about your…

Apple - MobileMe

:)

You might have a Mac at home, a PC at work, and an iPhone or iPod touch. The challenge is keeping multiple devices always in sync. Enterprises can use a server like Exchange. For everyone else, now there's MobileMe.

Why is “App” capitalized in the title, but nowhere else? One product it could be - say you have basically a processor that runs as a peripheral to say, a Mac Pro - connect it via fire wire and just use it as instead of some VM….

Mac OS 10.6 to appear at WWDC 08?

Rumor has it that Apple will be seeding developers with Mac OS 10.6 early next week at WWDC 08.

I don't buy it either. If Apple excels at one thing over anything else it's marketing, and showcasing a new OS that doesn't have anything new to Woo us is illogical.I do hope they leave the PPC and 32-bit users behind. While the…
