Plurk = Twitter (Without the Downtime)

Users of both Twitter & Plurk weigh the pro’s & con’s of each site.

"In my mind, using Twitter is like using a blog without comments, where you force others to write their own post to reply to yours. But now Plurk has come along and changed the one-dimensional face of microblogging."Kristin…

Campus copyright battle moves to textbook torrents

The RIAA’s extensive campaign against filesharing has drawn in a lot of individuals, but college campuses have remained a major target of the content owners’ legal threats. It’s pretty clear that there’s significant expertise with filesharing on college campuses, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that this expertise has been put to use with other

Textbook Torrents (catchphrase: "because you can't torrent beer") is one of the sites mentioned in a report by The Chronicle of Higher Education, and its administrators clearly view themselves as providing a…

Plurk: The Near-Perfect Lifestreaming Experience Has Arrived

Plurk, the latest lifestreaming service to make the rounds, certainly has one thing going for it - a sense of humor, albeit an odd one. The site is currently riding a wave of new registrations due to a mention from Leo Laporte, but is it worth your time or is it just another Twitter clone with a prettier UI?

The networking options on Plurk are enough to accommodate most people (in theory… in practice I couldn't import a friend list using any of the mechanisms, but it appeared to be a local problem). You can use email contact lists as…

BitTorrent Shrugs Off Massive Malware Attack

Described as One of the most prevalent pieces of malware in the last three years,? the Downloader-UA.h trojan is running wild on P2P networks. But thanks to its system strength - and the work of torrent site moderators - such outbreaks are shrugged off by BitTorrent.

I use shareaza for some of my downloads and I see these things all the time. There is usually 15-20 different files that pop up in any type of search, and I mean any search. If you do a search for say, Matt, some of the first and best hosted…

Lawyer Who Threatened File-Sharers is Banned For 6 months

A lawyer who sent out hundreds of thousands of threatening letters demanding that alleged file-sharers pay 400 euros, has been banned from operating for 6 months. Elizabeth Martin, who had been working with Swiss anti-piracy outfit, Logistep, was condemned by the Paris Bar Council.

She is still a human being, even though without any kind of moral ground. No, I do not wish she gets raped or gets a death sentence. I do however hope that she’ll think it through. We all do wrong things, but we’re always able…
