User-Generated Content Makes Web the New Sweatshop

Whether they’re creating content for sites like YouTube and Wikipedia, viewer-submitted news services like CNN’s iReport or videogames like Spore and LittleBigPlanet, today’s most valuable employees will most likely never set foot inside the building?or collect a paycheck.

Yet is it really a sweatshop if none of the workers is complaining? They're certainly not complaining about Spore'unless it's about how long it's taken videogame creator Will Wright and his team to complete the…

nihilogic: Javascript Super Mario Kart

This is a prototype of a Javascript Mario Kart-like racing game.
It uses the canvas element to do most of the rendering and should work in both FF2, FF3, Opera 9.27 and Safari 3.1.1.

@Christian Heilmann: It's pretty much the same principle as mode 7, I believe. The blurryness is because of the scaling done by the canvas and the low res map used.@makken skeyes: Sure. http://www.nihilogic.dk/labs/mariokart/mariokart.js

Jagged Alliance 2 for Linux

Jagged Alliance 2 is a tactical role-playing game for PC, released in 1999 for Windows, and later ported to Linux by Tribsoft.

The graphics in JA2 are, well, they're from 1999. The resolution is limited to 640 × 480, and though I'm not sure you'd actually need to go higher to get any more information, the display seems somewhat pixelated and blocky…

Valve Software's other major component that they use for their own games and over time has been opened up to its licensees is Steam. Steam is Valve's digital distribution platform. The Steam client — which right now is only…
