Flash on Linux no longer breaks webpages

“There’s a new beta for Flash Player 10 (Astro) available for Windows, Mac, and — you guessed it — Linux.” Drop-down menus, like the one on Adobe’s webpages, can now properly overlay Flash animations in both Firefox and Opera. There’s also better camera support, better language support and speed and stability improvements.

Performance seems to got better too. More instances of the plugin seem to have a lower impact in performance. Webcam had no improvement in my setup. I tested it with Kopete just to be sure everything was ok, the webcam is working fine with it….

Once Nearly Invisible To Search Engines, Flash Files Can Now Be Found And Indexed

For most people on the Web, if Google or Yahoo cannot find something, it doesnt exist. That has been one of the biggest drawbacks to creating a Website or application that displays itself as a Flash (SWF) file. Search engines could see the file, but they could not see what was in it. Until now.

Perhaps a sitemap.xml-style standard, but specifically taking into account the usage cases for RIAs. Sure, it’ll take some thinking to get even the first iteration close to being “right”, but it’s…
