Is Pownce Developing An MP3 Player?

Daniel Burka, co-founder and head designer for Pownce, has generated some buzz by posting a screenshot teaser of an upcoming release.

During the height of twitter’s down-time, I was hoping there would be a mass jump to Pownce. That didn’t happen and, in my opinion, the service has languished. The pending music/media player could be a useful, fun…

AMD: Intel’s misdeeds killing our long-term sustainability

AMD and Intel have been trading shots through the court docket since AMD first filed its antitrust lawsuit against Intel in 2005, so it's not particularly surprising to see a new 108-page filing from Sunnyvale and a prompt and massive reply from Santa Clara. AMD's filing does, however, contain a few new bits of information.

Having listed the various ways in which Intel allegedly abuses its monopoly position, AMD launches into the heart of its argument. In taking such actions, Intel has excluded AMD from fairly competing in the market and placed the company in a vice…

At Amazon, Sun Coming Out From the Cloud

Sun Microsystems is getting ready to talk about its cloud computing efforts, including some kind of a deal with Amazon for its Amazon Web Services, according to CEO Jonathan Schwartz, who delivered a short keynote at Startup Camp in San Francisco.

When I asked him about that decision and how it weighed on him, Schwartz turned the question back on me. My response, I suppose, as a capitalist, are that tough decisions come as part of doing business. That kind of attitude, Jonathan said, leads…

Some of America’s most venerable newspapers face extinction

Pick almost any American newspaper company and you can tell a similar story. The ABC reported that for the 530 biggest dailies, average circulation in the past six months was 3.6% lower than in the same period a year earlier.

Industry experts such as Lauren Rich Fine of Kent State University do not think that the Times is responding forcefully enough. “Now is the time to beef up its business section,” she says. Ms Fine also points out that although…

Getting Inside Steve Jobs’ Head

What would it really be like to know what Jobs is thinking at any given moment? Maybe he has plans for world domination. Maybe he really does want Apple to be like Microsoft - monopolistic — heck it’s kinda going that way.

This goes beyond the UI that has to maintain some consistency for the platform and moves into assuring the software and drivers that go into a machine are first reviewed and validated by the OEM to make sure they won?t break your hardware….
