Apple accidentally ships MobileMe to .Mac customers

Apparently someone at Apple HQ got a little trigger happy on shipments of MobileMe.

@GrantIt probably depends on where you live. That's the number I get when they ask for my zip code on the Verizon web site. In any case, I was being sarcastic. I actually preferred the coverage I got when I was with Verizon but unfortunately…

The Pirate Bay Pledges ISPs to Block Sweden

In an response to the new wiretapping law that was introduced in Sweden this week, The Pirate Bay will ask international ISPs to block traffic to Sweden, to protect their customers. In addition, the BitTorrent tracker will add SSL encryption to their site, and roll out a new VPN service.

However, there are already many ways of encrypting your BT/P2P traffic such that the Swedes wouldn’t be able to do anything with it anyway. Just enabling encryption on most BT clients would be a good start (azureus offers several…

MPAA Says It Doesnt Need Evidence to Convict Pirates

Only a few weeks ago, a University of Washington study showed showed how inaccurate the MPAA and RIAAs evidence gathering techniques are. Now, instead of improving their pirate chasing tactics, the MPAA simply claims they dont need any evidence to bankrupt alleged? copyright infringers.

The fact that the MPAA can now practically do anything they want is totally pointless and crazy… that can’t be let going, they could sue anyone for uploading whatever they say, just to get their cash, because they are too dumb…

Getting Smarter Without Doing Anything

Interesting article on how alert services can make you smarter without doing anything.

One example: you subscribe to an alert service that notifies you if a US tennis player wins a tournament on the ATP tour. If you havent received an alert for the last two months and somebody asks you about it, you could tell him that in the…

Massive Attack: Half A Million Microsoft-Powered Sites Hit With SQL Injection

A new SQL injection attack aimed at Microsoft IIS web servers has hit some 500,000 websites, including the United Nations, UK Government sites and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. While the attack is not necessarily Microsoft's fault, it is unique to the company's IIS server.

The NoScript add-in for Firefox isn't going to help you if you've added a compromised site to your trusted list. Thats teh point of this attack - it compromised trusted sites to in turn install malicious software on an end…

I Saw The Future Of Social Networking The Other Day

Anyone whos been reading this blog for more than a few months knows Im bullish on mobile social networking.
The space is wide open at this point - no one has created an application that has gotten enough traction to go mainstream. Thats party because of tech limitations - browser based networks dont leverage the power of the mobile device.

Facebook could introduce a great mobile app fulfilling all the features mentioned above, but not easily kill it. There is perpetual issues with Facebook privacy and the majority of users are not content with unlimited exposure. In my opinion, a…

Is Robot Evolution Mirroring the Evolution of Life?

According to some scientists, robot creations are evolving similar to how life on Earth evolved, only at warp speed. By some calculations, by mid-century no human task, physical or intellectual, will be beyond the scope of robots.

Robots do not in any way mirror biological evolution since there is no external selection pressure imposed on these mechanical populations. Organisms either adapt or die and this is largely based on reproductive success. Selection dictates which…

Steve Jobs has Cancer “Jobs hid cancer for nine months”

CNN has a pretty extensive profile on El Jobso — the likes of which seem to appear almost monthly these days in the mainstream media publication of your choosing — but one of the more interesting tidbits is that apparently dude sat on his pancreatic cancer for nine friggin’ months before seeking treatment.

Actually, there are many different types of pancreatic neoplasms. But they carry different prognosis. For instance if this has been the really lethal pancreatic adenocarcinoma, he would be dead already, this is the really bad player and life…

How Linux Passion Sometimes Beats Windows Preloads

Sure, Microsoft expects Windows installed base to top 1 billion licenses by the end of this year. But in the shadow of Windows Vista, a rather remarkable trend ? known as an InstallFest ? continues to transform Linux from a fringe desktop option into a mainstream Windows alternative. Heres the scoop.

During that same time, I’ve successfully and happily installed and used several versions of OpenSUSE, Fedora and Mandriva. I’m not talking about one one…but numerous hardware combinations, including my laptop and four…
