The criminals in the federal government are now trying to legalize the seizure of computers and other property under the guise of strengthening intellectual property laws.

The U.S. House today passed by an overwhelming margin a bill that would allow the government to seize a person's computer if the machine has one illegally downloaded mp3 on it. This was passed under the guise of strengthening intellectual property laws and was lobbied heavily by the RIAA and MPAA.

(ii) Any property constituting or derived from any proceeds obtained directly or indirectly as a result of a violation of subsection (a).

Mozilla Stealth Data Project Could Be Just What The Internet Needs

This seems interesting

Most services I’ve seen are just basic. I mean that they still use univariate (descriptive) statistics to analyze web data. Perhaps the advanced analytics is just around the corner for those services mentioned in this article….

DriveSavers breathes life into a dead drive | Geek.com

It's well known that failed hard drives can be recovered, but few people actually use a recovery service because they're expensive and not always successful. Geek.com has an article walking through a drive recovery handled by DriveSavers. The recovery team did not give away many secrets, but they did reveal a number of insights into the process.

Still not believing that it was time to throw in the towel, I remembered a company that specializes in recovering dead hard drives: DriveSavers. I dialed them up and after answering a series of questions, I was quoted a range with an estimated…

The best desktop OS is…

Windows is getting better, albeit with SP hick-ups, but the Linux desktop is still the best desktop.

To take one example of why I'm in no danger of switching to Windows anytime soon, security continues to be a fundamental problem in any variety of Windows starting with Windows for Workgroups to Vista SP1 and Server 2008. In fact, the newest…

Bournemouth has become the first town in the UK to get super-fast internet connections - via the sewerage system. More than 88,000 homes and businesses in the Dorset town will benefit from internet speeds up to 100Mbps under the scheme, considerably faster than consumer broadband speeds on the market.

He added: “Many households and broadband customers in the UK have insufficient connectivity bandwidths because they are attached to legacy networks deployed in the 20th Century that just can't cope with demand.”

I started cycling through combinations and wouldn't you know it… 5937… *click*. The iPhone was unlocked.

I adjusted a few icons on her iPhone for her and returned the phone to her. She cleaned the screen again and locked it. A few seconds later, she received a SMS message and unlocked her phone. After logging into her phone she handed it to me and…
